The Attitude of Gratitude – 5 Ways To Develop It
One of the ideal ways to prevent us staying in a victim mentality when circumstances don’t work out to our liking is to cultivate the attitude of gratitude. When we take the time to count our blessings and realise how much we really have and are grateful for them, it shifts our perspective and our attitude.
What is gratitude? Gratitude is “the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful.” It comes from the Latin word gratia meaning favour, pleasing. Gratefulness broken down can read Great Fullness.
The first step is to realise that gratitude is a choice, and that it we may have to work at it until it becomes a habit and a way of life. Most of us were taught as children to state “thank you” when someone gave us a present or did something nice for us. Unless we’re careful the thank you can become rote unless we learn ways to cultivate the attitude of gratitude.
Parent can instil the attitude of gratitude in their kids when they explain to them that the motive behind the giving of a gift is love. What a wonderful way for the child to experience these feelings of love and thoughtfulness. It will be effortless for them to appreciate and be grateful for everything that they receive.
In this way it will lay the foundation that gratitude comes from the heart; that a gift has no strings attached to it and that it isn’t done out of obligation, but because they truly want to. The children themselves are then less likely to state thank you glibly or out of obligation but instead can state thank you from a grateful heart.
Model this yourself and let your child know that you’re grateful for them, and are grateful for everything in your life. Children notice and are aware of everything, and they’ll imitate whatever you do, so it goes without saying that they’ll learn from your example.
Gratitude is also a skill and it is never too late to learn a skill. Teach your children that it only takes a moment of opening their eyes to see all the blessings around them. As they make this a habit and look for these blessings, very soon it will become their reality. Each night before they go to bed ask them to ask themselves this question. What am I grateful for today?
Here are some things to keep in mind to develop an attitude of gratitude:
Express Gratitude.
When you’re grateful for the things that you have and express gratitude it takes it to another level and opens the door to feeling optimistic. Optimism is a skill that can be cultivated. It is the ability to see the good even in the worst situations. One of the ways to develop it is to think, feel, and express gratitude both for the small and the large things that take place in your life.
The Law of Attraction and Gratitude.
An important way to apply the law of Law of Attraction is by raising your vibration by acknowledging and giving thanks for what you are grateful for. When you are in a Stateof gratitude you are resonating and sending out a frequency of acceptance and harmony. This is a high vibration and as a result you will draw and attract to you the events, conditions, synchronicities and circumstances that you want to manifest into your life.
A Grateful Heart.
There’s a beautiful praise song that I recall singing years ago called Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart that came to my mind this morning. Have you ever wondered what it would take to always be grateful for everything that comes your way? I realised that it begins by contemplating on the things that I am grateful for. Having a grateful heart has to do with aSay of being, and it has to be cultivated by self reflection. It comes by considering how life has supported you.

A easy way to remember to express gratitude is by reflecting on gratitude quotes. As we contemplate on the truth of these are powerful sayings by people from all walks of life, they help us make a subtle shift in the way we perceive life, and enable us to stay on track and move forward.
