BBG Communications and Success
There are many theories on success. More specifically Americans have access to hundreds of 12-step programs guaranteeing easy money, true love, weight loss, and smoke free lifestyles. Most of the time, these tapes, books, and seminars are met with smug sarcasm and identified as frauds. However, the underlying message in every one suggests the same common sense principle to success and/or happiness: goal orientation. The most important decision to make when addressing personal success or happiness is the decision to become goal oriented, realizing a desire and working towards it wholeheartedly.
The defining element in both success and happiness is aspiration. Because these words retain a variety of meanings, the definitions of “happiness” and “success” must be assessed in very personal terms. An aspiration is something wanted by an individual, that can bring personal satisfaction. That is why it is so important to be yourself and be honest with yourself when addressing goal-oriented activities. Additionally, it is critical to analyzethe motives of each aspiration to be sure they are not a result of exterior pressures or negative forces. False impressions, denial, exaggeration, and disillusionment may result in failure or the accomplishmentof goals other than one’s own. Happiness works in much the same way. Although it isentertaining to make others happy, personal contentment greatly depends on the fulfillment of individual needs.
The other half of becoming goal-oriented isn’t spoken; it is done. In the span between epiphany andaccomplishment lies action. In brevity, what’s done between point A and point B determines the eminence of point B. Once a goal is established, a course of success must be charted. This requires active execution, assiduousness, and determination. Success depends on the steps taken to achieve it and total goal orientation necessitates each step to be in the direction of the objective. This means each judgment made must be in favor of progress, not regression. For example, actively deciding to exercise and to not over eat or consume unhealthy foods, even after temptation, will successfully produce weight loss. Whereas, calling it a diet but not making committed changes in lifestyle and eating habits results in failure to loose weight. In addition to merely setting a goal, proper actions and conscious activity are essential to success and happiness.
This principle of free and determined will applies to nearly every aspect of life. Whether the object is weight loss, getting an education, a promotion, or even taking a simple vacation, goal orientation is the most important decision to make for success. Every bit of the course though, lies in proper decision-making. One wrong choice can send success and happiness backpedaling into failure and disappointment. Decisions and actions act as the roots of success. Furthermore, because both of those factors depend solely upon the individual, perhaps happiness and success do as well.
